Hafren's Garden

Hafren’s Garden
image size: 105 mm
card size: 150mm

The sun sets behind the great landmark of May Hill, and birds flutter around the bean poles and the bird table. This is the burial ship of Hafren, who, as legend tells us, gave her name to the River Severn long ago in the Dark Ages. Far from being a sad image, it is full of life and growth and consolation.

You can read the whole story of Hafren - in Geoffrey of Monmouth’s chronicle: http://www.yorku.ca/inpar/geoffrey_thompson.pdf In subsequent linocut prints in the series I explore the possibility of bringing Hafren back to life. Take a look at Hafren’s Sail, Hafren’s Daffodils, Hafren’s Ark and Night Voyage.

The image was professionally printed onto Somerset Enhanced 225gm acid free authentic fine art paper from St Cuthbert’s Mill, Somerset, using the highest quality archival pigment inks. This was mounted onto Japanese Hosho paper, which in turn was applied to a 350gm satin card. A thumbnail print was applied to the back of the card with details of printing. Finally the card was signed, dated and titled by the artist.

This card is the perfect size to be mounted into a standard 25 x25cm frame. A perfect small gift which can be displayed for many years without fear of fading.

The card is left blank for your message.
